Vision of the Glory of God Filling the Temple

43 Then he led me to the (A)gate, the gate facing toward the east; and behold, the (B)glory of the God of Israel was coming from the way of the (C)east. And His (D)voice was like the sound of many waters; and the earth (E)shone with His glory. And it was like the appearance of the vision which I saw, like the (F)vision which I saw when [a]He came to (G)destroy the city. And the visions were like the vision which I saw by the (H)river Chebar; and I (I)fell on my face. And the glory of the Lord came into the house by the way of the gate facing toward the (J)east. And the (K)Spirit lifted me up and brought me into the inner court; and behold, the (L)glory of the Lord filled the house.

Then I heard one speaking to me from the house, while a (M)man was standing beside me. He said to me, “Son of man, this is the place of My (N)throne and the place of the soles of My feet, where I will (O)dwell among the sons of Israel forever. And the house of Israel will not again defile My holy name, neither they nor their kings, by their harlotry and by the [b](P)corpses of their kings [c]when they die, by setting their threshold by My threshold and their door post beside My door post, with only the wall between Me and them. And they have (Q)defiled My holy name by their abominations which they have committed. So I have consumed them in My anger. Now let them (R)put away their harlotry and the [d]corpses of their kings far from Me; and I will (S)dwell among them forever.

10 “As for you, son of man, [e](T)describe the [f]temple to the house of Israel, that they may be (U)ashamed of their iniquities; and let them measure the [g](V)plan. 11 If they are ashamed of all that they have done, make known to them the [h]design of the house, its structure, its (W)exits, its entrances, all its designs, all its statutes[i], and all its laws. And write it (X)in their sight, so that they may observe its whole [j]design and all its statutes and (Y)do them. 12 This is the [k]law of the house: its entire [l]area on the top of the (Z)mountain all around shall be most holy. Behold, this is the [m]law of the house.

The Altar of Sacrifice

13 “And these are the measurements of the (AA)altar by cubits (the (AB)cubit being a cubit and a handbreadth): the [n]base shall be a cubit and the width a cubit, and its border on its edge round about one span; and this shall be the height of the [o]base of the altar. 14 From the base on the ground to the lower (AC)ledge shall be two cubits and the width one cubit; and from the smaller ledge to the larger ledge shall be four cubits and the width [p]one cubit. 15 The [q]altar hearth shall be four cubits; and from the [r]altar hearth shall extend upwards four (AD)horns. 16 Now the [s]altar hearth shall be twelve cubits long by twelve wide, (AE)square in its four sides. 17 The ledge shall be fourteen cubits long by fourteen wide in its four sides, the border around it shall be half a cubit and its base shall be a cubit round about; and its (AF)steps shall [t](AG)face the east.”

The Offerings

18 And He said to me, “(AH)Son of man, thus says the Lord [u]God, ‘These are the statutes for the altar on the day it is built, to offer (AI)burnt offerings on it and to (AJ)sprinkle blood on it. 19 You shall give to the Levitical priests who are from the offspring of (AK)Zadok, who draw (AL)near to Me to minister to Me,’ declares the Lord God, ‘a (AM)young bull for a (AN)sin offering. 20 You shall take some of its blood and put it on its four (AO)horns and on the four corners of the (AP)ledge and on the border round about; thus you shall (AQ)cleanse it and make atonement for it. 21 You shall also take the bull for the sin offering, and it shall be (AR)burned in the appointed place of the house, outside the sanctuary.

22 ‘On the second day you shall offer a (AS)male goat without blemish for a sin offering, and they shall (AT)cleanse the altar as they cleansed it with the bull. 23 When you have finished cleansing it, you shall present a (AU)young bull without blemish and a (AV)ram without blemish from the flock. 24 You shall present them before the Lord, and the priests shall throw (AW)salt on them, and they shall offer them up as a burnt offering to the Lord. 25 (AX)For seven days you shall prepare daily a goat for a sin offering; also a young bull and a ram from the flock, without blemish, shall be prepared. 26 For seven days they shall make atonement for the altar and purify it; so shall they [v]consecrate it. 27 When they have completed the days, it shall be that on the (AY)eighth day and onward, the priests shall [w]offer your burnt offerings on the altar, and your (AZ)peace offerings; and I will (BA)accept you,’ declares the Lord God.”

Safe at Malta

28 When (A)they had been brought safely through, (B)then we found out that (C)the island was called [a]Malta. (D)The [b]natives showed us extraordinary kindness; for because of the rain that had set in and because of the cold, they kindled a fire and (E)received us all. But when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks and laid them on the fire, a viper came out [c]because of the heat and fastened itself on his hand. When (F)the [d]natives saw the creature hanging from his hand, they began saying to one another, “(G)Undoubtedly this man is a murderer, and though he has been saved from the sea, [e]justice has not allowed him to live.” However (H)he shook the creature off into the fire and suffered no harm. But they were expecting that he was about to swell up or suddenly fall down dead. But after they had waited a long time and had seen nothing unusual happen to him, they changed their minds and (I)began to say that he was a god.

Now in the neighborhood of that place were lands belonging to the leading man of the island, named Publius, who welcomed us and entertained us courteously three days. And it happened that the father of Publius was lying in bed afflicted with recurrent fever and dysentery; and Paul went in to see him and after he had (J)prayed, he (K)laid his hands on him and healed him. After this had happened, the rest of the people on the island who had diseases were coming to him and getting cured. 10 They also honored us with many [f]marks of respect; and when we were setting sail, they [g]supplied us with [h]all we needed.

Paul Arrives at Rome

11 At the end of three months we set sail on (L)an Alexandrian ship which had wintered at the island, and which had [i]the Twin Brothers for its figurehead. 12 After we put in at Syracuse, we stayed there for three days. 13 From there we sailed around and arrived at Rhegium, and a day later a south wind sprang up, and on the second day we came to Puteoli. 14 [j]There we found some (M)brethren, and were invited to stay with them for seven days; and thus we came to Rome. 15 And the (N)brethren, when they heard about us, came from there as far as the [k]Market of Appius and [l]Three Inns to meet us; and when Paul saw them, he thanked God and took courage.

16 When we entered Rome, Paul was (O)allowed to stay by himself, with the soldier who was guarding him.

17 After three days [m]Paul called together those who were (P)the leading men of the Jews, and when they came together, he began saying to them, “(Q)Brethren, (R)though I had done nothing against our people or (S)the customs of our [n]fathers, yet I was delivered as a prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans. 18 And when they had (T)examined me, they (U)were willing to release me because there was (V)no ground [o]for putting me to death. 19 But when the Jews [p]objected, I was forced to (W)appeal to Caesar, not that I had any accusation against my nation. 20 For this reason, therefore, I [q]requested to see you and to speak with you, for I am wearing (X)this chain for (Y)the sake of the hope of Israel.” 21 They said to him, “We have neither received letters from Judea concerning you, nor have any of (Z)the brethren come here and reported or spoken anything bad about you. 22 But we desire to hear from you what [r]your views are; for concerning this (AA)sect, it is known to us that (AB)it is spoken against everywhere.”

23 When they had set a day for Paul, they came to him at (AC)his lodging in large numbers; and he was explaining to them by solemnly (AD)testifying about the kingdom of God and trying to persuade them concerning Jesus, (AE)from both the Law of Moses and from the Prophets, from morning until evening. 24 (AF)Some were being persuaded by the things spoken, but others would not believe. 25 And when they did not agree with one another, they began leaving after Paul had spoken one parting word, “The Holy Spirit rightly spoke through Isaiah the prophet to your fathers, 26 saying,

(AG)Go to this people and say,
[s](AH)You will keep on hearing, [t]but will not understand;
And [u]you will keep on seeing, but will not perceive;
27 (AI)For the heart of this people has become dull,
And with their ears they scarcely hear,
And they have closed their eyes;
Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
And hear with their ears,
And understand with their heart and return,
And I would heal them.”’

28 Therefore let it be known to you that (AJ)this salvation of God has been sent (AK)to the Gentiles; they will also listen.” 29 [[v]When he had spoken these words, the Jews departed, having a great dispute among themselves.]

30 And he stayed two full years [w]in his own rented quarters and was welcoming all who came to him, 31 [x](AL)preaching the kingdom of God and teaching concerning the Lord Jesus Christ (AM)with all openness, unhindered.
